The European Week
2003 is an information campaign with the purpose to transform Europe
into a zone of safety and health at work, by promoting initiatives aimed
to reduce the risks of working in the presence of dangerous substances.
With the support of the European Commission and Parliament, of trade
unions and employers federations, this annual initiative has become
one of the most important events dedicated to safety and health at work,
in Europe. The European Week provides a unique opportunity to focus
attention on the importance of safety and health at work.
The main objectives
of the European Week are: to increase awareness of risks associated
with dangerous substances; to promote activities meant to reduce such
risks; and to promote good practice solutions.
The European Week is coordinated by the Bilbao-based European Agency
for Safety and Health at Work and will run in all 15 EU Member States,
in the candidate countries, and beyond. The Agency is the European Union
organization responsible for occupational safety and health information.
